I’m a member of the DBS Update Service

We need your Update Service DBS certificate to renew our records. To give us access to this, please follow the following instructions.

Step 1: Check your Update Service subscription is still valid.

Subscriptions must be renewed yearly. We can only use Update Service DBS certificates if your subscription for that certificate is:

  • At the correct level (for example, standard or advanced) for your role
  • Is active with the updated service

You can check your certificate by logging in to the Update Service portal on the Government website here.

If you don’t have a current subscription, you’ll need to follow this guide here instead.

Step 2: Upload your certificate.

You should have received a link to your DBS portal by email. If not, you can find it by clicking here and logging in. Unfortunately, this link does not work on all smartphones or tablets. For your best experience, we recommended Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge web browsers.

What is my username?

Your username will be the email address you registered with us.

What is my password?

Click on ‘Forgotten your password?’ below the login boxes on the portal and enter your email address. This will send a temporary password to you by email. In rare instances, your email provider may filter this email into your junk mail so please also check this folder. You will need to change this temporary password when you next log in.

In the DBS portal, you must upload your DBS certificate and give us consent to check the update service. The certificate you upload must be the one registered with the update service.

Step 3: We update your profile

Once you have completed both steps to renew your DBS, please send an email to DBSUpdateService@nhsprofessionals.nhs.uk. This will notify us that you’ve completed the submission.

We aim to update your profile within 5 working days. If you’ve not had an update after this time, please contact us by clicking here and completing the form.
