About NHS Professionals

About us

We run England’s largest NHS flexible staff bank and since 2001, we’ve been putting thousands of highly skilled healthcare professionals into NHS Trusts and other places to care. Uniquely owned by the Department of Health and Social Care, we work closely with the NHS and reinvest our annual surplus back into the wider healthcare economy.

Putting people in places to care

We have more than 180,000 UK and international Members, from doctors, nurses, midwives, AHPs and scientists, through to non-clinical roles including estates and facilities, catering staff, administration and IT. Working flexibly, they add millions of extra hours of high-quality care into the NHS every year across the whole healthcare system – from urgent short-term shift-fill, through to longer-term placements supporting strategic goals such as integrated care. Their skills, experience, passion and diversity, combined with assured standards and a commitment to continuous learning, make our Bank Members the best-value choice for Trusts with temporary staffing needs.

Premium workforce support

As a leading managed service provider, we help Trusts to generate lower costs, more capacity and greater freedom to focus on people-centred care. Already used by more than 50 Trusts nationwide and also available to Trusts with their own Bank, we provide a complete end-to-end temporary staffing service. Recruitment, HR, payroll, training, marketing, performance and data reporting – we handle the details while the Trust retains oversight.

Key benefits include:

  • The fully managed flexible supply of high-calibre healthcare professionals
  • On-site team
  • Reductions in external agency and non-pay spend
  • 24/7 National Service Centre
  • Innovative Bankshare® scheme allowing Trusts to share their own substantive staff between Banks across a region or collaborative
  • Simple roster-integrated shift booking system requiring no new investment.

Staffing the system

Since our formation in 2001, we’ve been passionate about the NHS: its people, its patients and its future. Many of our own staff come from an NHS background, including senior clinical roles; the NHS and its values run through our DNA. Our national scale and subject matter expertise make us a critical workforce provider to the NHS. We’re ready to staff the whole system – from rapid crisis response such as COVID-19, through to routine operational front line. We also meet back-office staffing requirements and support strategic collaborations across the health and care sectors.
