Why do you love working for the NHS?
I love working for the NHS as I get to meet so many fantastic people on a daily basis here. I am very much a people person and believe that I can make a difference by the way I treat everyone I come into contact with. A simple smile and a warm greeting can go a long way to making someone feel good, especially if they have had a tough day, or a difficult labour. I was always brought up with the saying "it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile, so turn the frown upside down"
How does flexible working make a difference to your life?
It helps me manage things at home, I enjoy some peace and quiet at home while the kids are at school so I can get on with some household tasks. It gives me a really good work / life balance. Something I could never have had in my old job as a sales manager, where I was always on the road and never home till very late. I never saw my family much and that troubled me. So flexible working ticks all the boxes and makes my family unit that bit closer together :))
What has been your proudest moment working for the NHS?
My proudest moment so far has been given a show of appreciation by the director of our department for my hard work and willingness to go the extra mile to help. I have had a couple of nice thank you cards in the last couple of months and they mean so much to me. It's always nice to hear when something good has been achieved. I don't look for praise as I just want to do my job to the best of my ability, but it certainly makes you feel very good about yourself when it comes your way!
Tell us about your past
I was born in the North of Scotland, working in the NHS wasn't something I aspired to as a youngster, I was one of the footy daft lads who wanted to be a professional footballer. But a serious leg injury and life circumstance meant that was no longer possible (sigh). So I turned my attentions to office based work, as I have a real love for working with PC's and dealing with people. So once I found out that it was possible to get a job here I jumped at the chance and haven't looked back since I started in July 2016
<h5">Tell us about your life outside of the hospital </h5">
I am a happily married dad of 2, I love working with Computers, be it online gaming or maintenance of friends and family computers. I like building my own systems from scratch and have done so for the last 2 that I have had. The computer technology of today and what they can do fascinates me. I also love spending quality time with my 2 children. Be it the occasional trip to the cinema or day trips here there and everywhere, we always try to find some quality time to spend with the kids, they certainly wont remain kids for long so important to involve them in as much of our spare time as possible, I also like to play snooker, watch football and listen to my music.
