This ultra-marathon runner loves working for the NHS because the Trust staff are sympathetic and supportive. It also enables him to earn money whilst working around other commitments. In his spare time, Ian is a keen runner, musical whizz and has also exhibited his paintings in galleries all over Hertfordshire!

Why do you love working for the NHS?

Because everything I do contributes to the health of the patients we serve. The NHS Trust staff are very supportive and sympathetic.

 

How does flexible working make a difference to your life?

I can work as much or as little as I like and still get holiday pay. I'm not actually losing much money. I have money coming in whilst working around other commitments.

 

<h5">What has been your proudest moment working for the NHS? </h5">

Getting my fixed term contracts especially as I was working as a Work Experience volunteer and was approached to sign up with NHSP.

 

Tell us about your past…

I was born in London. I survived Meningitis and Encephalitis when I was 2 months old. I have a degree in business. I run Marathons for charity. I'm a keen cyclist. I have been through the Royal Schools of Music on the cornet and have been playing for 50 years, I've taught myself the Piano, Tipperary Tin Whistle and now currently teaching myself the guitar.

 

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of work?

I run Ultra Marathons, Marathons and Half Marathons. I have completed 1 Ultramarathon, 5 Marathons and 23 Half Marathons. I love attending Brass Band concerts and contests. I have exhibited paintings at Art Exhibitions all over Hertfordshire. I love the countryside and natural history.
