Consultant with Adult Psychiatry

Doctors Direct has a great opportunity for a Consultant with Adult Psychiatry experience available at many sites across South London sites providing inpatient and outpatient adult mental health care, and learning disability inpatient services.

This role allows you to work with a multi-disciplinary team providing holistic evidence-based care and working with people to manage their mental health and risks when at their most distressed. As the Consultant, you have the opportunity to develop those working relationships and provide clinical leadership to enhance the clinical offer within the team and wider unit. The multi-disciplinary team you work with also provides the support to provide this care.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Work directly with patients suffering from a range of mental health problems and provide an excellent standard of practice and care
  • Assess patients by reviewing their mental and physical health, their background and current social situation, thoughts and past health issues, as well as any potential risk factors
  • Take notes and keep detailed records of any interactions and decisions
  • Decide on suitable psychiatric treatment plans for patients, which often include a mix of psychological, medical, and social interventions in conjunction with other health professionals
  • Prescribe medication when necessary
  • Monitor and review treatment regularly
  • Have excellent knowledge of physiology, anatomy, psychology, pharmacology and mental health law, as well as an awareness of the social factors that influence mental health
  • Work closely within, or lead, a multidisciplinary team of health professionals, including psychiatric nurses, psychologists and occupational therapists

Details about the Role:

  • Speciality: Adult Psychiatry
  • Locations:  Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham & Southwark (South London areas – you pick which location suits you)
  • Start Date: ASAP-ongoing, no end date yet
  • Days per week: Monday-Friday (our client will accept part time consultants 2-3 days per week)
  • Shift Pattern: 9:00-17:00, including on call occasionally
  • Pay rate: £100-£120 per hour (depending on experience)
  • Payment method: PAYE we do NOT facilitate payment through LTD/umbrella companies

The minimum requirements for the role are:

  • Valid GMC
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Clinical attachment complete
  • Minimum 3 months paid UK experience
  • AC Status essential
  • S12 desirable

Our client will consider international doctors who do not have paid UK experience in areas’ whereby there is high demand, however you MUST meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years international psychiatry experience – essential (this must be detailed in CV)
  • Valid GMC – essential
  • Right to work in the UK – essential
  • Excellent in verbal and written English – essential
  • Clinical attachment complete – desirable
