Speciality with Learning Disabilities

 

Doctors Direct has new opportunities for Speciality with Learning Disabilities Psychiatry experience. We have multiple roles at many sites across Rotherham Doncaster & South Humber NHS Foundation Trust providing community, inpatient, and outpatient mental health care and learning disability inpatient services.

In this role, you’ll diagnose and treat acute illnesses, and chronic diseases Your patients will often have several medical conditions and be taking a number of different medicines.

Some common conditions you might treat include:

  • Mental health
  • Adaptive functioning
  • Psychosocial needs
  • Cognitive abilities

As part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll work closely with medical colleagues including GPs and other hospital doctors as well as experts in the community such as social workers. Your ability to collaborate and work well with others will be vital.

 

The role demands a strong sense of compassion and the ability to adopt a holistic, patient-centric approach. You’ll provide rehabilitation after illness and need a comprehensive knowledge of physical treatments, adaptations, and aids.

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Diagnose and formulate treatment plans for psychiatric disorders commonly co-occurring with learning disabilities, such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and behavioural disorders.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to the unique strengths, challenges, and preferences of individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Provide evidence-based interventions, including pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, behavioural interventions, and social skills training, to address psychiatric symptoms and enhance functioning in daily life.
  • Providing specialist assessment and care planning in conjunction with service users and carers.
  • Evaluating treatment plans
  • Responsible Clinician duties within the community team.
  • Being responsible for an agreed caseload.
  • Responding to and informing referrers and other professionals as necessary on decisions, care plans, policies, and best practices.
  • Providing clinical leadership within a collective leadership model.

Details about the Role:

  • Specialty required: Learning Disabilities Psychiatry
  • Locations: Scunthorpe, Doncaster.
  • Start Date: ASAP-ongoing, no end date yet.
  • Days per week: Monday-Friday (occasional on calls)
  • Shift Pattern: 9:00-17:00, including on-call occasionally.
  • Pay rate: £60 to £75 per hour (depending on experience).
  • Payment method: PAYE We do NOT facilitate payment through LTD/umbrella companies

 

 

 

You will need to have the following key skills and experience:

  • To be able to work well in a team.
  • To have excellent leadership qualities.
  • To provide evidence-based care that is recovery-focused.

The minimum requirements for the role are:

  • Valid GMC.
  • Right to work in the UK (we DO NOT provide sponsorship).
  • Clinical attachment complete.
  • Minimum 3 months paid UK experience.
  • S12 desirable
