Consultant NICU

We have an exciting opportunity for a consultant to work with us at University Hospitals Plymouth in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) specialising in neonatal medicine.

We are looking for a dedicated doctor ready to work in a Trust that puts their patients at the heart of everything they do.

This Role placement opportunity is to start ASAP (with the possibility of being longer) within the excellent team in the NICU. You will be responsible for providing exceptional care to neonates in the largest maternity unit on the peninsula.

Although this role would be predominantly based in Plymouth University Hospitals Trust there may be the opportunity to work extra shifts across any of our partner Trusts.

Details about the role:

  • Location: University Hospitals Plymouth Trust
  • Days per week: Monday-Friday
  • Shift Pattern: long days  (negotiable shift pattern)
  • Start Date: ASAP - Ongoing
  • Pay rate: - £90 Per Hour (depending on experience)
  • Payment method: PAYE We do NOT facilitate payment through LTD/umbrella companies

This role is based in the NICU which currently has 14 intensive high dependency, 8 special, and 18 transitional care cots, with a 7-day-a-week neonatal outreach service.

 

General workload includes:

  • Providing direct medical care to neonates in various states of health, including premature infants, those with birth defects, infections, or other medical conditions.
  • Performing and overseeing medical procedures such as intubation, ventilation, central line placement, and other critical care interventions.
  • Assessing, diagnosing, and treating newborns with various medical conditions, prescribing medications, and recommending appropriate therapies.
  • Monitoring patient progress, interpreting diagnostic tests, and making adjustments to treatment plans as necessary.

Doctors Direct recruit to the highest of NHS standards and all applicants for this role should meet pre-screening requirements before applying:

  • Full GMC licence to practice
  • MRCPCH Part I (Or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 12 months General Professional Training or equivalent
  • At least 18 months paediatric training, including 6 months of neonatology.
  • APLS or equivalent
  • Child Protection Level 2 Course
  • Must be able to cover nights and long days
