Autumn Edition Newsletter

A note from: James Orr

It really is a pleasure to be able to introduce myself to you in our newsletter and begin sharing the plans for the future of Doctors Direct. Having worked in medical staffing for the last 10 years which includes many NHS trusts as customers, I’m looking forward to sharing my knowledge and experience in my role as Managing Director.

Over the coming months we will be continuing to focus on your needs and those of our doctors to develop your careers, specialties and career pathways.
You may have already met with your placement consultants at drop in sessions in your local Trust, the feedback provided has been invaluable – so thank you to everyone who has given their time so far.

Insights from our conversations at drop in sessions ensure that we are finding the right ways for us to work with you. We continue to look at our membership options and how these can best support you.

As Doctors Direct evolves, we want to ensure you are all part of the conversation involved in shaping the routes to the right types of work for you. Our aim is to provide greater choice of work by giving you access to a growing number of partner Trust employers.

I look forward to meeting you and updating you on our journey.

James

Drop in sessions

Over the coming months, your trust will be hosting a series of drop in sessions to give you the opportunity to find out more information about the service we’re providing and enabling you to submit any feedback you may have as to the service you are receiving as one of our locum doctors.
As a thank you for your time and your input, we’ll be entering any feedback given into a prize draw to win an Amazon Echo Dot.

GMC launches 'speaking up' resources

As you will know, The General Medical Council helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK. To aid with this, they have recently launched a ‘speaking up’ web page within the ethical hub section of their website.
The pages include professional guidance on raising concerns, and include a quick guide on the steps involved, some practical tools for speaking up and listening up effectively, and real life examples of how this has made a difference.

What do you wish you’d known?

We would love to know what advice you wish you’d been given as a junior doctor, the best advice you were given, or your favourite memory from your time as a junior doctor. We’ll be compiling a blog post for junior doctors starting out in their medical careers from the advice given by our locums.

As a thank you for sharing your experience, we will be donating £10 on your behalf for each submission to our charity of the year, the British Heart Foundation.
