Our Bank Member survey: your feedback

Thank you to everyone who took part in our last Bank Member Survey at the end of last year - your feedback really makes a difference.
More than 6,000 of you shared your experiences of working through the Bank, giving us powerful insights into the realities of flexible work in the NHS today.
Your answers show us what matters most, where things are working well, and where challenges remain. This survey also helps us work with our NHS Client Trusts to make sure the Bank continues to support you, the healthcare services you provide and, importantly, patient care.
What is working well?
- Flexibility matters most: For 81% of you, Bank work continues to provide the control and autonomy that suits your lifestyle
- Feeling connected to NHSP: Around 64% of you see NHSP as your ‘employer’
- Pride in the NHS: 25% of you also feel closely connected to the wider NHS brand
What could be improved?
While flexibility and working for the NHS, through NHSP, are clearly valued, our insights from you tell us that some challenges remain. We have categorised these into five key areas:
- First impressions and shift movement: you highlighted the need for standardised inductions and redeployment practices
- Staff experience: you said where we could offer more support, especially with challenging circumstances or behaviours that you have encountered
- System access: you told us about the lack of digital platform access you sometimes have, which makes delivering care harder
- Career support: you detailed the problems you sometimes face around obtaining the right training and career development opportunities
- Equity: you shared your experiences around sometimes feeling excluded from teams and not always feeling valued
What are we doing to help you?
Based on this feedback, we have created a Bank Member Experience Improvement and Delivery Group that is working on making changes in the five priority areas above. Key actions include:
- Improve inductions and redeployment
- Offer more support to you in every part of your work as a Bank Member
- Secure the right level of digital access for you
- Strengthen career development and training opportunities
- Promote peer inclusion and recognition of the contribution Bank Members make
We are also working in partnership with our NHS Client Trusts to make sure any of the above improvements we implement are embedded at a local level, as well as nationally.
Next Steps
In the coming months, we’ll publish a series of updates on each of these themes, showing how your feedback is being turned into action. We’ll also share case studies from across Trusts so you can see what’s working and where progress is being made.
Together with you and our NHS Client Trusts, we are committed to building a modern, inclusive and sustainable flexible workforce experience - one that continues to value your contribution and enables you to deliver the best patient care.
Thank you again to all those who took part in our survey and to all our Bank Members who continue to provide their feedback to us – it is very much appreciated.
