Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC) Training

In August 2024, NHS England launched the Enhanced Therapeutic Observation and Care (ETOC) programme to support trusts in delivering clinically led, locally tailored, and patient-centred approaches to observation and engagement. The programme is grounded in best practice and co-designed with clinical leaders, frontline staff, and stakeholders across care settings. The programme aims are multi-dimensional including:

  • Improving workforce efficiency and staff experience
  • Enabling and supporting families and carers
  • Person -centred approach to reducing harm and improving patient experience
  • Effective education and training initiatives to support workforce utilisation

Our comprehensive programme is closely aligned with NHS England’s ETOC model and national priorities around person-centred, safe, and compassionate care. It has been designed to equip frontline staff, with the knowledge, skills and confidence to effectively deliver therapeutic engagement as a means of:

  • Reducing falls and incidents of distress
  • Increasing patient satisfaction
  • Improving staff morale
