Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) – Effective 6 April 2026
What Has Changed?
From 6 April 2026:
• SSP is payable from Day 1 of sickness.
• There is no minimum earnings threshold.
• SSP is paid at 80% of Average Weekly Earnings (AWE), subject to a statutory weekly maximum.
For 2026/27, the statutory weekly maximum is £123.25.
Who Qualifies?
You may qualify for SSP if:
• You have an agreed and confirmed shift or assignment; and
• You follow the sickness reporting procedure.
• SSP is only payable for confirmed shifts.
• If no shifts were agreed, no SSP is payable.
• A confirmed shift becomes a “qualifying day” for SSP purposes.
Reporting Sickness
You must:
• Report sickness to the ward or unit you are due to work on through My:Bank. To do this, cancel your booked shift using the reason code ‘Sickness’.
• We also request you call the ward or unit out of courtesy but this is not mandatory.
Failure to follow reporting procedures will affect payment.
