Autumn Incentive Scheme

On behalf of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, we are pleased to introduce the NHSP Autumn Incentive Scheme for Registered Nurses/Practitioners working in the eligible Theatres, Emergency Department and Critical Care areas at University Hospital Southampton.

The scheme will run for eight weeks, from 26th October 2026 to 20th December 2026, and rewards additional qualifying shifts worked during this period.

Incentive payments

Substantive workers: 4 shifts – £150; 5 shifts – £175; 6 or more shifts – £200.

Bank-Only/Exclusive workers: 8 shifts – £300; 10 shifts – £350; 12 or more shifts – £400.

To qualify:

• Shifts must be worked in one of the eligible clinical areas below and booked against an approved assignment code.
• Each shift must be at least 5.5 hours.
• Shift types that qualify are lates, twilights and nights to be worked Monday-Friday
• Qualifying shifts must be worked and released by the relevant published release date.
• Annual leave, sickness, training and cancelled shifts do not count.
• No more than one shift may be cancelled within 24 hours of its start time during each four-week qualifying period.
• There is no pro-rata payment where a threshold is only partly achieved. Bank workers will receive one payment at the highest threshold achieved.
• You can qualify for the incentive in each qualifying period
• Any shifts from the first four-week period that do not reach the minimum payment threshold will carry forward automatically, with payment based on total qualifying shifts across the full eight weeks.
• Payments are subject to tax, National Insurance and other statutory deductions.

Qualifying periods

26 October–22 November 2026: shifts must be released by 29 November 2026; payment date 11 December 2026.

23 November–20 December 2026: shifts must be released by 3 January 2027; payment date 15 January 2027.

Eligible wards/areas and assignment codes

Please note: CTA Scrub Cardiac is excluded because a separate bonus arrangement is already in place.
