Registered Nurse - Intensive Care

We currently have some unique and exciting opportunities within University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust which will allow the successful candidates to gain regular shifts and valuable experience within a unique environment that has ability to care for people before their birth through to the end of life providing almost any specialism they could need along the way. We have both Fully Flexible Ad Hoc shifts and Long Term Placement opportunities available within a variety of locations, providing you with the chance to work regular shifts for a guaranteed period of time!

The critical care units at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) are renowned for their local and national contribution to critical care, as well as for consistently delivering high standards of clinical care. They are very proud of our developments and their service has expanded enabling them to actively recruit.

UHS is one of only two places in the south of England to offer adults and children full onsite major trauma care provision. They are a designated major trauma centre and have general and specialist critical care areas which were awarded ‘outstanding’ for leadership in our recent CQC inspection.

Locations covered: Southampton General Hospital

 

Band 6

Day Rate - £19.38 per hour

Night/Sat Rate - £25.19 per hour

Sun/Bank Holiday Rate - £31 per hour

 

Hours and shift are offered on a fully flexible basis, full or part time!

Clinical Duties:

1. To provide a high standard of care for patients by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for individual patients.

2. To give and receive regular reports on the progress of patients, reporting immediately any changes in the patients’ condition to the senior trained nurse on duty, or the medical staff as appropriate.

3. To carry out all aspects of nursing care, treatments and procedures within agreed policies and procedures.

4. To work with medical staff and other members of the health care team to ensure that treatments are carried out within agreed policies.

5. To maintain accurate records of observation, treatment and patient/family care.

6. To receive patients and their relatives in a calm, courteous and reassuring manner, participate in providing information and support.

7. To ensure the safe custody of patients’ belongings and valuables according to Trust policy.

8. To participate in the checking and administration of prescribed drugs (including controlled drugs) and other substances in accordance with Trust policy.

9. To participate in the checking and administration of intravenous drugs having demonstrated relevant knowledge and competence, and been authorised by Sister/Charge Nurse or Senior Nurse.

10. To ensure that all equipment is in good working order and ready for immediate use.

 

The post holder should be able to:

  • To be responsible for the care of assigned patients and to manage, direct and evaluate their care
  • Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of nursing practice, relevant to the clinical area
  • Involve and encourage the patients family and friends to be actively involved in the caring process
  • Communicate effectively to the Patient, relatives, carers and colleagues
  • Provide high standards of nursing care, reflecting the beliefs of professional nursing practice and patient care
  • Escalate as required, reporting any incidents/accidents are recorded using the appropriate method
  • Complete and maintain accurate patient care records on the electronic patient management system
  • Conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times

 

In order to apply for a post you must have a minimum of 6 months experience in a similar role held within the last 2 years and hold NMC Registered Nurse (RN1) qualification.
