Coronavirus update

Following recent developments around the Wuhan novel coronavirus situation (also known as COVID-19 acute respiratory disease), please note the steps NHS Professionals is taking for our bank members, in line with advice from the Department of Health and Social Care.

Please be assured that the Chief Medical Officer for England has currently assessed the risk to the public as moderate and is monitoring the situation, but it is important you are aware of the virus and take precaution.

What is coronavirus?

Wuhan novel coronavirus is a new strain of coronavirus which was first identified in Wuhan City, China. Some typical symptoms are:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

The Department of Health and Social Care have published information for the public on their websitewhich includes advice for travellers from Wuhan. If you have returned from Wuhan in the last 14 days, please make sure:

  • You stay indoors and avoid contact with other people, as you would with other flu viruses
  • Call NHS 111 to make them aware of your recent travel to the city
  • Follow this advice, even if you don’t have any symptoms of the virus

What does this mean for you as an NHSP bank member?

NHS Professionals is working closely with our client Trusts and local and national health bodies to ensure all necessary precautions are taken. As an NHSP bank member based in the UK, it is unlikely that you will be affected. However, if you feel that you may be at risk or start to recognise any of the symptoms described, please take the steps outlined above.

Please be assured that the UK is well prepared for these types of potential incidents and the NHS has tested processes and procedures to manage these effectively. Although it is not yet severe enough, where this is needed, NHSP has an extensive plan in place for monitoring and managing any potential issues in the unlikely event of a pandemic.

We hope this communication reassures you, but if you have any questions, we have a dedicated email address for you to contact:
