Audience: RMNs, CSWs & Clinicians working in Mental Health Trusts
Areas covered:
Throughout the webinar we will be looking to develop practice and provide an opportunity for reflection and learning for those who may work within an inpatient ward, utilising a seclusion environment.
Seclusion describes a situation in mental health services, where an individual receives care and treatment away from other patients and confined to a designated room/suite. This intensive-care scenario occurs in mental health services where the person is acutely unwell and there is an immediate, unmanageable risk of harm to others. Seclusion is always used as a last resort, where other interventions have not been sufficient to manage the risk presented.
Care, safety, dignity, containment and professionalism are all key aspects of good nursing care within this often demanding environment. This webinar seeks to explore some of the challenges, review good practice, consider post incident debrief and support, discuss policy, strategies, prioritisation, and teamwork.
