Our locum service

Doctors Direct is a locum service by NHS Professionals. Our aim is to provide NHS Trusts across the UK with quality, cost-effective locum cover. We offer the same competitive pay rates as private agencies, without the expensive agency fees. Doctors Direct is owned by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), meaning profits made go directly back into supporting our NHS, and your NHS Trusts.

Joining

There are currently 2 membership options for you to join Doctors Direct as an NHS Locum:

• Bank Exclusive

  If you have previously worked at one of our partner Trusts and would like to work shifts within that Trust only, you can join with our Bank Exclusive
   

• Bank Only

  Alternatively, if you are not permanently employed by one of our partner Trusts and would like the flexibility of working at any of our NHS Trusts, you can apply through the Bank Only

Next steps

Upon application, you will be assigned a dedicated contact who will remain your point of contact at Doctors Direct. They will support you through the application process, assist you with bookings and payment and be there to answer any queries that you have.

In addition to your dedicated contact, you will also have an on-site team based at each of our client Trusts. The Doctors Direct team also run quarterly drop-in sessions at each Trust where you can meet the team, find out about exciting incentives we have running and get any questions you have answered. Pre-employment checks

If you apply through our Bank Exclusive or Full membership the following pre-employment checks are carried out:

• DBS check
• Occupational Health Clearance
• References
• Additional pre-employment checks relevant to Obstetrics and Gynaecology locum doctors only:
  • Certificate of Eligibility (CEL) from The Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RCOG)

If you have concerns about any sanctions on your license, please inform our recruitment team at the point of joining.

Applying for full membership with Doctors Direct will require you to also complete some mandatory training.
