Speciality: Surgical - Acute Cardiac Unit - The Unit provides close monitoring and high-dependency care for a variety of cardiac conditions. Speciality: AMU W - The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) is the first point of entry for patients referred to hospital as emergencies by their GP and those requiring admission from the Emergency Department.

Speciality: Clinical Decisions Unit - Designated area within the hospital that allow our providers to monitor and evaluate the medical condition of patients who do not meet criteria for inpatient admission but are not well enough to go home without require further observation.

Speciality: Cardiology - We deal with all conditions affecting the heart, including coronary artery disease (the cause of angina and heart attacks), heart valve disease, heart rhythm disturbances (arrhythmias), heart muscle problems (e.g. heart failure) and high blood pressure (hypertension). The department is led by a team of nine consultants, supported by a team of junior doctors and cardiac specialist nurses.

Speciality: Maternity - Gloucester ward is a busy 27 bedded ward for mums and babies. There are three six-bedded bays, one four-bedded bay and five amenity/side rooms.

Speciality: Pathology - Histopathology (or histology) involves the examination of sampled whole tissues under the microscope

Speciality: Theatres - We have operating theatres at the Lister hospital only, covering both inpatient and day surgery. Each year our team performs around 23,000 operations.

Speciality: Outpatients - The part of the hospital designed for the treatment of outpatients, people with health problems who visit the hospital for diagnosis or treatment, but do not at this time require a bed or to be admitted for overnight care.

Speciality: Pharmacy - pharmacy service has departments at the Lister and New QEII hospitals, as well as the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. Between them they provide a range of services for the Trust’s patients as well as in the case of the Lister team, for the mental health unit on the hospital site run by the Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.  The same two pharmacy teams also provide services to some community hospitals and clinics, as well as to GPs

Speciality: Stroke - The team provides a hyper-acute service, along with continuing management of stroke patients – including thrombolysis, investigation, assessment and rehabilitation.  We also run a daily rapid access transient ischaemic attack (TIA) service/stroke prevention clinic at the Lister.

Speciality: Surgical - Surgical Assessment Unit -  The SAU assesses patients who have a confirmed or probable surgical condition. Patients are referred to us via their GP or are admitted via the Emergency Department

Speciality: Short Stay unit - The short stay unit (SSU) is a ward providing targeted care for patients requiring brief hospitalization and dischargeable as soon as clinical conditions are resolved.

Location: Purple Zone, level 5, treatment centre

Speciality: Treatment centre - Day surgery - patients who are admitted to hospital as an inpatient and who stay in the hospital for a particular surgery.

Transport: Outside the main building, on the left hand side as you enter the building. Before entering the main building, turn left out of the multi-storey, follow the path to the left
